Our car payments are made through 5th 3rd and due the 17th of each month with a 10-day grace period. Since my husband's SS check arrives on the 22th, we pay our bill within the 10-day time frame allowed BY LAW. We've never been late. We've never missed a payment. We've explained the situation to them.
However, Fifth/Third phones our home repeatedly if the bill isn't paid by the 17th. It's an automated message that connects us to an operator. IF we don't speak to the operator, the phone calls continue until we do.
On Memorial Day weekend, we paid the bill at a Fifth Third branch on Saturday morning (the 24th.)
Yet, they still phoned our home four times Saturday, waking up kids and friends who were trying to sleep after a long trip and late night arrival. They also phoned once on Monday(26th), then again on Tuesday (27th). Their excuse is that their computer won't log our payment until Tuesday evening at midnight.
These calls were placed on a National Holiday weekend, for heaven's sake, to long time customers who regularly pay their bills.
To say we're furious is an understatement. We're considering legal action.

| 2. Written by me, on 02-03-2009 09:43 Fifth third did the same "auto service" with me. They started calling on a Friday evening say "please stand by for an important message from 5th 3rd bank". Figuring it was a telemarketing call, I hung up. I got 5 more calls on Friday Evening, then 5 more on Saturday. Finally I stayed on the phone to tell them to take me off their phone list. Surprisingly the call was answered by a man in the Philipines asking me financial questions about my account. I refused to give him anything, as I had no way of knowing if this was a real call or not. The man then proceeded to tell me that my car payment was late and if I didn't give him a payment then (the current and next months), they would start collections on me immediately. I explained my payment was mailed 2 weeks before it was due and I would contact the local bank. The next morning (Sunday) at 8 AM the automatic calls started again. I called their customer service number in the front of my coupon book, only to find it automatically now transferred me to their Philipino office again. Once connected there, a polite young man said that he would put a five day hold on the account while I checked with our bank to see if the check cleared yet. Promises made, promises broken. The automatic calls started immediatedly and continued all day Sunday. On Monday morning we found the check had not cleared and contacted the 5th 3rd office to see if they showed the payment being made. It had not. We stopped that afternoon and made the payment, late fee and the next month's payment "to clear the account". Last Friday we checked with our bank to find that the check - that they claimed they didn't have - cleared the same day that 5th posted the other payment. Now they have 2 months in advance.. and a late fee. In the week that they have had these payments, no one from the bank has attempted to contact us to see how they wanted the extra payments applied...or refunded.. or show any courtesy at all. More interestingly, there are no listings for their corporate offices.. Guess once they have you as their customer, they don't see a need to correspond with you other than harrassment. |
| 3. Written by ex-customer, on 31-07-2008 19:27 Fifth Third Customer service is a never ending phone-tree that randomly disconnects customers. There is no one who can help you on this line. Calling it is a waste of time. |
