Poor customer service at Sharonville branch

I have been a fifth third customer for over 25 years, normally great customer service. Today went through the drive thru to cash a few checks. I was in a hurry so the checks were folded in half. The clerk, Debbie Leach opened the container and started huffing and puffing. She said and I quote, "This is a mess, what do you expect me to do with this?" I was completely floored. She then proceeded to wait on another car, (that was in the other lane and came in after me !!). After that she waited on a walk in customer as my transaction just sat there on the counter. I was so upset that I parked my car and walked into the branch. By that time, another clerk completed the transaction and gave me the cash. Debbie laughed and said, "that looked like something my 4 year old grand kids would do"... I just shook my head and left.

Closed my account months ago. Still getting overdraft fees & nobody will help.

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I closed my checking account with Fifth Third on September 3, 2014. Now, in early March, I'm receiving letters from 5/3 AND debt collectors for $97 in overdraft fees that have been somehow accumulating since I closed my account.

Fifth Third customer service transferred me 3 times to different branches who they claimed could help me. Nobody at Fifth Third did anything for me, except blame me by saying that I should've told them to cancel my $7/month payment, WHICH APPLIED ONLY TO THE ACCOUNT I CLOSED. Why would I cancel my account, and then be required to specify that I don't want to pay for the account? I called the debt collectors and they couldn't do anything either.

And, it negatively affected my credit 15 days before the date it was supposed to.

The only option I had was to pay them. FOR THEIR MISTAKE.

Car loan issues

My son wanted a car, so I signed for the loan and my son cosigned. He set automatic payments to be drafted out of his checking out account every two weeks, iin order to pay the loan off faster.

Well everything was fine until one day we checked the account and found that the car owe amount didnt change, I text my son to see if he make the payment of course he said yes and that is got it setup to come out automatically. He checked his account to find out that 5/3rd sent the payment back as a refund. We call and asked why we found out that the created two loans for the same vehicle and the closed the one that he had autmatic payments too. Now since January he had been making payments with no issues.

When we figured out what happen, we asked them how, they had no clue. We on the otherhand were just happy to have found out the problem and able to get a fix on it. I told my son to go ahead and still pay the money you allocated to pay to the car and he did so by calling 5/3rd. Do you know they charged a 15 telephone processing fee to do so.

I couldn't believe it, I called 187*-676-**** and talked to an arrogant, smart a@# representative and told me that one had nothing to do with the other. I attempted to explain to him that it did, if they hadnt created 2 accounts we would not had gotten a refund back and I would not have been calling because the payment would have been made. He told me I could have western unioned the money. I was floored, I asked why they couldn't wave the fee, he kept saying that the two dont have anything to do with each other.

I am going to refinance this loan with another bank. Sorry customer service, appreciation and understand.

$31,495 dollar loan versus $15.00.

Was not able to pay thought their automated system which decided to hang up on me after about 20 minutes on hold, then decides to charge me with $20 in late fees due to the inability to pay them. It seems like the only "business" I've ever heard of that does not know how to implement an automated payment system properly. Another example is when I was double charged on a payment that I was making, and upon reversing the second payment that was mad I discover that I am not allowed to use their pay-by-phone system due to their error. I will be happy when I am through with their business. -Mr. Irritated

Fifth third Overdraft fees

And I thought I was the only one scammed by Fith Third bank.

Once in a while my account is short of money to pay for a charge, if you account is with Fith Third then you are in a big trouble. They charge you right away the $37 overdraft fee which put you in an even worse situation.

As I am writing I am being charge $148 of fees in 3 days just by trying to catch up to balance the account. Don't even try to see a branch manager especially if your account is located within a super market like Kroger. Most of the time they are young, inexperimented, arrogant and with the huge turn over you never see the same faces so why should they care about you. Banks are free to do whatever they want. Regulations ? customer protection ? my ***.

Fifth Third sucks and should be ashamed of their business practices. But that won't stop them as long suckers like me keep coming.

A really discusted customer in Cincinnti,Ohio.

Fifth Third witheld my funds and offered no help.

Updated by user Mar 06, 2015

Well, it keeps getting better with good old Fifth Third. I thought I had done sufficient damage control that the bank caused.

But because they bounced 6 payments from their on-line bill pay, they have locked me out of using the on-line bill pay. Part of the damage control was to pay 3 time sensitive bills that they had previously bounced. Since they did give me an available balance of enough to more than pay sufficient bills I set those bills up to be paid (again). Then I received the e-mail that my on-line bill pay has been locked and I needed to call their customer support to resolve it.

I have been talking to these people almost twice a day for the past week or more to fix this. So after spending a long time on hold the rep told me he'd call me back. When I finally heard from him he told me that those bills would be paid because they went in before the block but otherwise I would be locked out of using their bill pay for 3 business days. Nothing he could do to change it.

Turns out their is another company that handles the bill pay and, apparently, they are difficult to reach or resolve an issue. My funds are supposed to be released on Saturday morning and I will immediately start the process of moving over to a local credit union and leave these clowns in the dust.

I made a large deposit to my account in Fifth Third Bank on Feb 26, 2015. This was from a personal injury settlement and it was in excess of $30,000. On Feb 27 my online banking showed my available balance included the deposit made the previous day. As a result I paid off a furniture bill for around $4600 as well as several smaller bills. On Feb 28 when I looked at my account on line it indicated there was a hold on the check and they drastically reduced my available balance so the check would not be covered. I called them to get it straightened out. They could do nothing. I tried to change the date of the outgoing payment so that ut would be ok, but their online banking said the payment was in process. I called again and was told nothing could be done. They bounced 2 minor checks. I immediately went to my other bank savings and withdrew $2000 cash, went to Fifth Third and deposited it. All this happened as soon as the bank opened. I've been in touch with the local branch manager, who has been made fully aware of the situation and said he would write a letter on my behalf so I would not get returned check fees. One bank told me that Fifth Third should pay the fees, which they declined to do. The next day they bounced 4 more checks. If they only bounced the large check for the furniture payoff there was more than enough to cover everything. They are showing my available balance around $6000 while putting a hold on the large deposit. I've been told that the funds will not be available until the morning of March 7th. They have totally screwed me up andwon't do anymore than write a letter. I'm certain that my deposit has pong cleared but, apparently, that doesn't matter. As soon as the funds clear I'm getting out of Fifth Third and will never do business with them again.

Fifth Third Dispute Department

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

Absolute worst dispute department ever! Filed the dispute before the transaction even posted.

Yet still being told that because I was spammed I won't be getting my money back. How flipping ridiculous is that? If a scammer can obtain my card number, which obviously they did, then they can obtain my name and billing address and make a fake account to provide the bank with. According to the pathetic excuse for a dispute department if, no more like when, the scammer does this they have no choice but to believe their word over mine.

PATHETIC!

I will be hiring an attorney however, 5/3 is losing my business as of today! Don't trust them with your money people, they'll just take the word of a scammer over you when your money is stolen!

Resolved: Overdraft over charge

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Deposited cash and check in bank on a Friday am. Had a draft come out that same day less than deposit by 125 dollars but got charged two overdrafts for that I did get those rescinded but then charged an overdraft on overdraft because after money put back in account charged for a overdraft for a payment made with money that should have never been taken out of account in first place. My advise is this: Do not deal with this bank period and it needs to be investigated for misconduct by federal agency. If this applies to you let us move forward by contacting the appropriate agency.

Fifth Third Bank does not give a s--- about there customers

I was scammed by Barton Publishing of Brandon S.D. (please look it up on the internet) out of $40.00+ for there diabetes solution kit, I filed a dispute with Fifth Third Bank, Called there dispute department? and filed a written report and was turned down, even though there are literally hundreds of complaints filed online about being a scam, go ahead and google it and you will find out what I mean. Fifth Third Bank cares more about the welfare of the scammers than they do about there customers!!!! Something has happened over the last few years to make the Bank very customer unfriendly, Worst customer service ever!!! Beware!!!

Wow thanks. I was just about to send them some money (even though it's not a lot) but what is worse would be the disapointment to find out this kit is no solution either.

By coincidence, I have Fifth Third Bank as my bank too. I agree with you, but I do have to say they backed down on a couple of issues, prolly because I am to stubborn to quit.

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I opened an account at a branch across the street from where i work, so i decided to say yes to overdraft protection. With no warning or mobile banking, i bought myself a monster every morning before i work for about a week. I checked my account online and i was negative 32 dollars, and i thought no big deal, i get paid tomorrow. The next day i had negative 459 dollars from overdraft fees. And because i go to school full time and have a part time job my paychecks arent even that. So i had my portion of the rent to pay and i coukdnt pay it and now my land lord has evicted me and now im.back livung with my parents and next week marks my first paycheckof not being negative so ill actually have money for once. Auto Loan Harrassment

I purchased a new vehicle and the dealership preferred financing was through Fifth Third. The payment coupons clearly state that payments were due on the 7th of each month, but not considered "late" until the 22nd. So OK fine, I occasionally lost track of the date and didn't get the payment out until maybe around the 10th - but never, ever later than the 15th. Yet my checks "mysteriously" wouldn't clear until after the 22nd or even later, and the bank levied late charges against my account. Then they started calling me each month around the 5th to "remind" me of my late charges and pending due payment. The calls were daily, and sometimes multiple times a day - bordering on harrassment. Finally I decided to run a test (at my own expense). I mailed a payment with confirmation delivery and signature required by USPS. It went out purposefully late, on the 11th. The envelope was confirmed delivered on the 16th, with an employee signature. However the check didn't clear until the 23rd and surefire, they called to let me know my payment the following month needed to include a late fee. I could hear the gasp on the other end when I told them that I had a confirmed delivery receipt on the 16th, with one of their *** employees signatures, and that I was going to sue them (after reporting them to the Better Business Bureau). Suddenly, they were very sorry, it was a clerical error, they were happy to reverse the late fee and credit one previously assessed late fee...bunch of jack-weasel crooks! I finally got fed up and paid off the loan. I will NEVER EVER deal with these rotten bastards again!

The same thing is happening to us. Never have been late, but pay within the grace period.

Fifth Third Bank, I give them one star. They continually call me and harass me, you cannot make online payments either. Unheard of.

Definitely the worst bank to deal with.

Guest

I had the exact same problem and now they are trying to tack on "fees" in the amount of $300+ that are unjustified

Guest

Pay your bills on time and avoid all the hassle. Not "before they are late".

Pay on time.

You will have extra money! It will be great!
